My teaching approach appreciates that everyone is different so it follows that everyone’s needs are also different; I teach to the individual student’s needs using modifications where necessary. Yoga isn’t just about making shapes with your body, I am passionate about teaching the foundations of a posture to ensure correct alignment to enable the student to develop body awareness, improving flexibility, stamina, better posture, along with many other benefits.

I also teach pranayama, the art of breath control. Practising pranayama can help relax the nervous system and therefore reduce stress levels by quietening an active mind. It can enhance the mood, increasing energy levels and be generally beneficial for overall health.

Diaphragmatic breathing is the most efficient and relaxing way of getting enough air into your lungs. Breathing too quickly or irregularly can affect our health in many negative ways including; dizziness, faintness, headaches, visual disturbances, tingling, chest pains, palpitations. It can also become a cause of anxiety.

“Relaxation is the door to health, happiness and the ‘higher consciousness ‘“ which is why it is an important part of yoga practice. Relaxation gives the body and mind a chance to absorb the changes that have taken place during the practice. During relaxation the heart rate slows, blood pressure decreases, muscle tension reduces and vital organs are replenished.

Keeping my classes small helps to create a safe, friendly class environment, working at a pace suitable for everyone, where students can feel confident to ask questions and work within their own capabilities , listening to their own bodies in a non competitive environment.
